Ingredients
Scale
2 frozen pound cakes (10.75 oz each)
4 cups cold milk
2 boxes instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz each)
2 cans apple pie filling (21 oz each)
1 container whipped topping (8 oz)
1 jar caramel sundae topping (12.25 oz)
1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
Prepare the Pound Cake: Slice both of the frozen pound cakes into bite-size cubes. Beginner Note: Use a serrated knife for clean cuts. Cut the pound cake into even cubes for a neat presentation.
Make the Pudding: Add the cold milk to a medium-sized mixing bowl. Sprinkle both packages of instant pudding mix over the milk. Use a handheld mixer on medium-low speed or a whisk and beat the milk and pudding mix together until the pudding begins to thicken up. Beginner Note: Whisk vigorously for a smooth pudding. Do not overmix, as this can make the pudding too thick.
Layer the Bottom: Line the bottom of a trifle bowl with a layer of the cubed pound cake. Beginner Note: Use a trifle bowl that is large enough to hold all the layers. Arrange the pound cake cubes neatly for a visually appealing base.
Add Pudding and Apple Pie Filling: Spread ½ of the pudding mix over the bottom layer of pound cake. Spoon 1 can of apple pie filling over the pudding layer. Beginner Note: Spread the pudding evenly over the pound cake. Use a spoon to distribute the apple pie filling evenly.
Drizzle Caramel and Sprinkle Pecans: Evenly drizzle ½ of the caramel sundae topping over the apple pie filling. Sprinkle ½ cup of the chopped pecans over the caramel layer. Beginner Note: Use a spoon to drizzle the caramel sauce in a decorative pattern. Sprinkle the pecans evenly over the caramel.
Repeat Layers: Repeat the pound cake, pudding, and apple pie filling layers. Do not add the remaining caramel and chopped pecans just yet. Beginner Note: Follow the same layering order as before. Ensure the layers are even and visually appealing.
Chill: Cover the trifle and chill for 3 hours. Beginner Note: Chilling allows the flavors to meld and the trifle to set. Use a timer to track the chilling time.
Top and Serve: Just before you are ready to serve, spoon the entire tub of thawed whipped topping on top of the apple pie filling. Drizzle with the remaining caramel topping and sprinkle the remaining chopped pecans. Beginner Note: Spread the whipped topping evenly over the trifle. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce in a decorative pattern. Sprinkle the remaining pecans evenly.
